Quantum gravity, fakeons and microcausality

In this talk I will present a new local higher-derivative theory of quantum gravity. The model is based on the concept of fakeon or fake degree of freedom, introduced by means of a novel quantization prescription. The fakeon solves the problem of ghosts and leads to a unitary, renormalizable theory. I will present the computation of the absorptive part of the graviton self energy and discuss the physical implications of the result. In particular, the theory predicts the violation of microcausality. I will address this issue and compare the results with those of the Stelle theory, where there is a ghost instead of a fakeon.
